On 21st March 2024 at University of National and World Economy (UNWE) was held a thematic seminar on Energy security in the contemporary security environment of the Republic of Bulgaria. The event was organized by a research team of Department "National and Regional Security" (UNWE) in implementation of the National Science Program "Security and Defense" (NSP SD). The seminar was held in a hybrid format – at the UNWE and online via Microsoft Teams.
Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, Rector of the UNWE, underlined the importance of the NSP SD, which represents the first case in the country in which universities active in the defense and security field work together. He also emphasized that the program envisages joint work with the business sector, and that the thematic seminar represented an important step in that direction. Prof. Dimitrov reminded that the state-owned Bulgarian energy companies have particular importance for the Bulgarian national security, and thus, the cooperation with them will contribute to improving the energy security and the country's critical infrastructure.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noncho Dimitrov, head of the Department “National and Regional Security” and coordinator of the NSP SD for the UNWE, added that the implementation of the program will contribute to increasing publication activity, development of active relationships between scientific organizations and state universities in the country, inclusion in partner scientific networks from abroad as well as to improvement of the interaction between the academic and research organizations and the business sector.
Among the participants in the seminar were Ivan Andreev, E.D. of "Bulgarian Energy Holding" EAD, Angelin Tsachev, E.D. of "Electricity System Operator" EAD, Eng. Martin Georgiev, E.D. of "National Electric Company" EAD, Alexander Mihailov, E.D. of "National Energy Operator" and Dr. Ivan Hinovski from the "Projects" Directorate of Kozloduy NPP.
During the seminar, a cooperation agreement was signed between the UNWE and "Bulgarian Energy Holding" EAD.
