An agreement on the establishment of a consortium for the implementation of the National Scientific Program "Security and Defence") was signed on January 13, 2022 at the Rakovski National Defence College. The program was created in implementation of the National Strategy for the Development of Scientific Research 2017-2030 and was adopted by Decision of the Council of Ministers No. 731 of October 21, 2021. It is financed by the Ministry of Education and Science and is aimed at conducting fundamental scientific research in the field of security and defence, which will be publicly available and can be used by scientists, PhD students, students, etc. for the development and enrichment of scientific achievements for the benefit of society. It will consolidate the efforts of scientific organizations, universities, innovative business organizations and industry in the country to expand the participation of the Bulgarian scientific community in the field of security and defence.
Partner organizations in the program consortium are: Rakovski National Defence College, The Center for National Security and Defence Research- BAS, "Professor Tsvetan Lazarov" Defence Institute, the University of National and World Economy, University of Library Studies and Information Technologies, The Academy of the Ministry of Interior, Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy, Vasil Levski National Military University, "G. Benkovski" Bulgarian Air Force Academy.
The Defence Institute, together with the Rakovski National Defence College, are the leading organizations of the program, and the director of the Institute - Col. Assoc. Prof. DSc. Borislav Genov is the chairman of the Executive Board of the consortium.
The National Scientific Program "Security and Defence" has a three-year implementation period, and the realization of the set goals and about 50 scientific tasks is expected to be completed in 2025.
Guests at the signing of the agreement were the Deputy Minister of Defence Mr. Alexander Petkov, the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Academician Konstantin Hadjiivanov, the Deputy Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Dimitar Iliev, representatives of the academic community and the media, many guests.
