On 07.07.2022, the first work meeting of the National Scientific Program "Security and Defence" was held at the Central Military Club in Sofia, after its launch on 19 May 2022. It was financed by the Ministry of Education and Science and was adopted for implementation with Decision of the Council of Ministers № 731 of October 21, 2021 in implementation of the National Strategy for the Development of Scientific Research 2017-2030. The program is implemented by a consortium of nine educational and scientific partner organizations – The Center for National Security and Defence Research (CNSDR) - BAS, the University of National and World Economy, University of Library Studies and Information Technologies, The Academy of the Ministry of Interior, Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy, "G. Benkovski" Bulgarian Air Force Academy and the leading organizations in the consortium - Rakovski National Defence College and “Prof. Tsvetan Lazarov” Defence Institute.
The National Scientific Program “Security and Defence” is aimed at conducting fundamental scientific research in the field of security and defence, which will be publicly available and can be used by scientists, doctoral students, students, etc. for the development and enrichment of scientific achievements for the benefit of society. It will consolidate the efforts of scientific organizations, universities, innovative business organizations and industry in the country to expand the participation of the Bulgarian scientific community in the field of security and defence.
The work meeting was opened by Col. Assoc. Prof. DSc. Borislav Genov - Director of the Defence Institute and Chairman of the Executive Board of the National Scientific Program "Security and Defence". The participants were welcomed by Major General Todor Dochev – chief of Rakovski National Defence College, who expressed his satisfaction with the fact that security and defence issues were gaining more and more importance for society, and the very launch of this scientific program confirmed this.
Col. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nikolai Stoianov - Deputy Director of the Defence Institute and program implementation coordinator, introduced the participants to some general aspects of the organization and implementation of individual tasks and packages in the program.
After the introduction of all the participants in the meeting, a discussion began on the planned activities for the implementation of the individual packages and tasks of the program, issues related to the time schedule, reporting deadlines, etc.
The work meeting was also attended by Cor. member Prof. DTS Stefan Hadjitodorov – Vice-President of BAS and Head of CNSDR -BAS, Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov – Rector of the University of National and World Economy, Vice-Rectors, Deans, scientists and specialists from the partner organizations of the consortium.
The National Scientific Program "Security and Defence" has a three-year implementation period, and the realization of the set goals and about 50 scientific tasks will end in May 2025.
