On November 4, 2025, a seminar was held at the Plovdiv Regional Administration on the topic: "Space Technologies and Innovations in Support of Effective Crisis and Disaster Management." The event was organized by the Center for National Security and Defense Research (CNSDR) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), in cooperation with the Plovdiv Regional Administration and the General Directorate "Fire Safety and Population Protection" – Ministry of Interior (MoI), and with the participation of the leadership of the "Prof. Tsvetan Lazarov" Defence Institute.
The event is part of the National Scientific Program "Security and Defence" (NSP SD) and is an important step in achieving its goals of integrating the country's scientific potential in response to modern security challenges. The focus was directed towards the risks of climate change and the need for technological adaptation, uniting experts from the scientific community and representatives of state institutions.
Colonel Vladislav Shekerov, Deputy Director of the Defence Institute, presented the goals, tasks, and results achieved so far by the NSP-SD and their practical application, as well as the opportunities for future development of scientific work as a continuation of the program.
Mr. Kamen Iliev, Director of the CNSDR-BAS, presented how space applications serve as an innovative tool for prevention, early warning, and protection of the population and critical infrastructure.
The seminar emphasized the commitment of the NSP "Security and Defence" to provide not only theoretical research but also real, applicable solutions in support of state institutions.
